Welcome to Arise Psychology
My name is Dr Soad Nasr, and I am a Clinical Psychologist based in Glasgow. I offer a range of services including psychological therapy, coaching and clinical supervision. I meet clients in-person, online or as ‘walk and talk’ sessions in Kelvingrove Park.
The many years I have spent working in clinical practice as well as my own life experience has taught me that meeting challenges along life’s journey – no matter who we are or what stage we are at– is part of what makes us human. It is at difficult times like these when seeking some professional support can help us along our way.
I believe that effective therapy or coaching relies on a positive therapeutic relationship, and this means you feeling safe and connected with your therapist. I provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to explore your difficulties. Finding a therapist you connect with is important; that is why I offer an initial free informal chat on the phone or online, giving you an opportunity to discuss your needs and get a feel for me as a therapist and how we might work together.

My Approach
As a clinical psychologist I am trained in a number of therapeutic models. This means I can draw upon a variety of approaches to respond to your unique needs, rather than trying to fit your needs into one specific therapeutic ‘box’.
As well as offering evidence-based psychological therapy in a way that is flexible and integrative, I take a holistic approach to my client’s problems. One of the ways I do this is by acknowledging the relationship between the body and the mind and the important intersection between physical and emotional wellbeing. The way I work also takes into account our most fundamental human needs and the significance of our connections to meaningful community, creativity, pleasurable activity and the natural world.
I have an interest in community psychology, which uses innovative, creative and flexible approaches to engage individuals and improve their mental health, empowering them within their communities. I have worked, as an associate, with Trapeze, a Glasgow-based charity, which sought out creative ways to take psychological help out of clinics and into places where people live and work. My ‘walk and talk’ sessions offer people who do not feel comfortable in a clinic or indoor context a chance to experience therapy in an outdoor natural environment where they feel more at ease and empowered.
My Experience
I am an empathetic and effective clinical psychologist, with experience in a range of settings. I have been described as approachable, supportive, warm and compassionate by people I have worked with over the years.
I have over fifteen years’ clinical experience in the NHS and in the higher education sector. While training for my Clinical Psychology Doctorate, I worked in NHS Community Adult Mental Health Services (CMHT), Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and Learning Disability Services.
After qualifying I worked predominantly in NHS Mental Health services in both London and Glasgow. In London I worked in an NHS ‘Parent Wellbeing Service’ offering individual psychological therapy to parents of children who were being seen in CAMHS or Social Services. In Glasgow, I worked directly with children, young people and families in an NHS CAMHS service. Following this I worked therapeutically with university students and staff at the University of Glasgow. My most recent appointment was as a clinical psychologist working with adults in an NHS Complex Trauma Service.
Alongside my wide-ranging clinical experience I draw upon a rich and diverse personal experience of living in several countries in Asia and the Middle East, where I worked with marginalised and minority groups in a humanitarian and teaching capacity.

My Professional Qualifications

- Graduate Conversion in Psychology (Distinction), London Metropolitan University, 2009.

I am registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) as a practicing psychologist and my practice adheres to their professional standards (registration no: PYL32728).
I am also a chartered psychologist and member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and adhere to their code of ethics and conduct (membership no: 297234).
